About Papua Bird of Paradise

Papua Bird of Paradise is the specialist wildlife expedition operator for West Papua, Indonesia — a company born from a conviction that the world’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations deserve the world’s most knowledgeable and passionate guides. We exist because Raja Ampat’s coral reefs, West Papua’s Bird of Paradise forests, and the remarkable communities that have protected them for generations deserve visitors who approach them with seriousness, humility, and genuine expertise.

We operate under the Juara Holding Group, a Bali-based holding company with over a decade of premium travel experience across Indonesia. Papua Bird of Paradise brings together ornithological expertise, marine biology knowledge, expedition logistics, and luxury liveaboard operation in a way that no other operator in the region has achieved. Our team includes certified dive masters, specialist ornithologists, Papuan community guides, and expedition support specialists who together have accumulated thousands of hours in West Papua’s most remote and beautiful environments.

Our philosophy is straightforward: small groups, expert guides, pristine sites, genuine encounters. We deliberately limit group sizes to a maximum of 12 guests on any expedition because we believe quality of experience is fundamentally incompatible with mass tourism in environments this fragile. Every guest who travels with Papua Bird of Paradise does so knowing their expedition directly contributes to the communities and conservation systems that protect these habitats.

Our Commitment to Conservation

Papua Bird of Paradise operates on a simple conviction: the best protection for Papua’s extraordinary wildlife is the economic empowerment of the communities who live alongside it. When local families receive meaningful income from wildlife tourism — as guides, boat operators, camp staff, and cultural hosts — they become the most effective conservation advocates imaginable. They have a direct financial stake in maintaining the forest, protecting lek sites, and sharing their profound knowledge of the natural world with visiting guests.

We contribute a minimum of 5% of all tour revenues to partner community conservation funds. These funds support forest patrol activities, anti-poaching efforts, traditional ecological knowledge documentation, and youth conservation education programmes. We also employ exclusively local guides, boat crews, and support staff, ensuring that tourism dollars circulate within Papua’s communities rather than flowing to outside operators.
